A year or so ago, I started doing daily card draws to get more comfortable with the tarot. Before getting ready in the morning, I shuffle my deck, draw a card, and look up its meaning. Throughout the day I try to focus on that particular card and look for its influence. For example, if I draw the 4 of Cups (which has been coming up for me a lot lately), I try to be a bit more social at work to counteract my tendency to withdraw. I keep track of what cards I draw and sometimes when I look back, I can see trends in the cards corresponding to what was happening in my life.

Do you read for yourself on a regular basis? What spreads do you use?

I've just started an experiment where I draw cards daily. If I have time, I do a 3 card reading of some sort (body, mind, heart/spirit; thesis, antithesis, synthesis; hope, help, hindrance; and so on), or I just draw a single card indicating the energies I should be aware of that day. I keep track of these in my journal, noting briefly what's going on in my life so that I have some context when I look over the entries later. I'm also keeping track of what cards and elements show up repeatedly.

I like what [personal profile] lanterne_rouee said about pre-made spreads. As a beginner, I find that they can be useful as a learning tool, but if I'm doing a meaningful reading, I'll either create my own spread or, more likely, just start throwing out cards and using the deck as a tool for dialogue.
